Northshore Medical & Aesthetics Center is proud to partner with the Bermuda Lupus Association to provide naturopathic support for patients living with Lupus. Lupus is an auto-immune condition in which the body’s own tissues become a target of the natural immune response. The symptoms can be very debilitating. While there is no known cure, there are treatments which focus on suppressing the immune system and managing flare ups so as to minimizing tissue destruction. Naturopathic medicine is keenly suited to help with these goals. Dietary and nutritional support for the body’s natural detoxification pathways is very important, and intestinal support to improve digestion and elimination are vital to managing this condition. In addition, there are a number of nutritional supplements and botanical medicines that target each body system that is affected by Lupus to strengthen their resistance and moderate a healthier immune response. Lupus patients are encouraged to come in for a naturopathic assessment and development of a treatment plan that is appropriate to their individual case.

High Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure (HBP) is a common condition in which the force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.
Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure.
You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke.
High blood pressure generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. And once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it.

Doing it the natural way….

Neuropathy

Neuropathy is the medical term for nerve pain. Nerve pain is distinct, usually described as a persistent tingling or burning sensation, or it can also be numbness. It’s caused by the nerve being damaged, either by trauma or from tissue destruction due to the lack of its blood supply. This is the case in Diabetic Neuropathy. Sometimes the nerve pain is caused when the nerve is occluded, or “pinched.” This is the case with sciatica. Whatever the cause neuropathy can be challenging to treat because nerve tissue is slow to heal. One Naturopathic Medicalapproach is the use of a powerful antioxidant called Alpha Lipoic Acid. This substance has been shown in clinical trials to regenerate nerve tissue, namely the thin myelin sheath that surrounds and protects the delicate nerve. Another naturopathic approach to neuropathy pain is a homeopathic remedy called Hypericum. This is indicated when the patient has shooting pains that radiate from the site of the injury, and for those persons who are inclined to nervous tension. Acupuncture is another natural treatment that is excellent for sciatica pain. It may work by strengthening the vital force to the nerve while also helping the tissues around the nerve to relax. In this way the nerve can find its own way out of the muscle tissue that is occluding it. Don’t suffer with nerve pain.
