Summer Internship Program
I. Overview
The NMAC Summer Internship Program serves as a strategic initiative for succession planning, aimed at developing future healthcare professionals. This program provides hands-on experience to students currently enrolled in Medical School, Nursing School, and Biomedical Technology programs, encompassing a wide range of rotations and special projects to prepare them for their future careers.
II. Eligibility:
- Academic Enrollment: Applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited Medical School, Nursing School, or Biomedical Technology program at the time of the internship.
- Field of Study:
- Medical Students ( MD, OD, ND, NMD): Must be pursuing degrees in medicine.
- Nursing Students (RN): Must be pursuing degrees in nursing.
- Biomedical Technology Students: Must be pursuing degrees in biomedical technology.
III. Program Structure:
- Medical Students: Interns will participate in rotations through the following departments:
- General Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Rheumatology
- Ultrasound Diagnostics
- Dermatology
- Aesthetics
- Laboratory
- Pharmacy
- Nursing Students: Interns will rotate alongside nursing staff and medical assistants to gain hands-on experience in patient care and medical procedures.
- Biomedical Technology Students: Interns will be placed primarily in the laboratory setting, assisting with technological operations and diagnostics.
IV. Duration and Hours:
The internship will last for a duration of 10 weeks during the summer months. Interns are expected to commit to full-time hours, typically 40 hours per week, to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.
V. Additional Requirements:
- Research Project: Each intern is required to complete a research paper and a corresponding presentation at the end of the program. The research should focus on one of the NMAC’s programs, highlighting the positive benefits and outcomes of the selected program.
- Community Engagement: Interns will participate in community engagement exercises, which may include activities such as working in nursing homes, participating in community outreach programs, and other healthcare-related events. This is intended to provide a broader experience within the healthcare field.
